Rightio Loose Units, Moe's a Heavy 9 with the rail out 3m and a couple of showers poking around like annoying relatives - so this is less ballet, more mud wrestling. If the rain stays polite, the on-pacers and handy types get the first crack; if it tips in later, the swoopers with genuine wet legs can start dreaming of doing a Terminator walk-through down the outside.
Moe, 1008-1614m card
Out 3m Entire Circuit
Heavy 9 (expected to play genuine, but with a bit of an on-pace lean early)
Shower or two, 17C, humidity 74%, wind 16km/h NNE (watch for late-race rain kicks and gusty chopping)
Front-half runners and those with wet-track grunt should get first lick of the ice cream
Race 2 looks sleepy, Races 3 and 4 have clear banks, and the back half of the card turns into proper punting carnage
Damien Thornton - riding a heap of live ones and he keeps finding the right lane when the money's on
Daniel Stackhouse - all over the card with live rides for A & S Freedman and company, and he's timing them well
Brad Rawiller - when the map says "sit handy and punch", he can make the rest look like they're stuck in second gear
A & S Freedman (5 runners) - Apres, Anglesea, Tsarine and Ice Quake give them a serious footprint on the day
Patrick Payne (4 runners) - Bold Jester, Rose Velvet, Infinite Jest and Nottolook all have live claims in their races
Ms C Alderson (2 runners) - Too Tough and Foxsky are the types the market has already cottoned onto
This meeting's got "wet day at the pub with the footy on" written all over it. The early races are where the map matters most - Race 1 and Race 2 can be messy enough, but once you hit Race 3 and Race 4 you've got two genuine banker legs where the shorties look hard to dodge. Too Tough and Blue Humma are the sort of runners that make you stop pretending you're a genius and just cop the obvious play.
The middle of the card is where the goblins live. Race 5, Race 6 and Race 7 all have a few runners getting hammered in the market, which tells you the punters with sharper elbows reckon the ground won't be a drama. Blue Humma, Tamatoa, Dream If You Can, Social Pages and Russian Front have all had a sniff of support; on a Heavy 9 that's usually not random, it's the stable saying "we're here to collect, mate".
Don't go getting all arts-and-crafts with the roughies. This is a day to let the map do the talking, keep your spine tight, and lean into races where the better horses are also the better wet-track and speed-map plays. The best betting shape is simple: take the obvious bankers in Races 3 and 4, protect yourself in the open middle races, and don't get sucked into the drifters unless they've got a filthy excuse and a genuine wet track angle.
If you're playing one sequence, the Early Quaddie is the cleaner crack. The main Quaddie is a proper sweat because every leg has a bit of wobble in it, and the Big 6 is basically a novelty ticket for the degenerates who like a long, slow emotional decline. Use the pre-built tickets, don't freestyle like it's a bad karaoke night, and remember that on a track like this, being early and handy is often worth more than being flashy.
These are the three bets the day leans on.
(Race 3, No.8) - $1.89
Why: Looks the clear class runner in the race, maps to get the right trail, and the heavy deck shouldn't worry it one bit.
(Race 4, No.1) - $2.11
Why: Been smashed in the market for a reason - handy map, right sort of sprint race, and the stable clearly means business.
(Race 7, No.8) - $2.67
Why: The race shape is kinder to a horse like this, and she gets the chance to sit off the speed and pounce when the leaders are gasping in the slop.
Multi (all three to win): $10 x ~10.62 = ~$106.20 collect
Mdn Plate, 1614m
Moderate speed, with Always Free and a couple of on-pace types likely to get the first crack at it
This is a slog where the tempo should keep the field together for a while, and the one you want is the horse that can hold a spot without getting bullied in the wet. Always Free is the obvious one on form and the map, but the price is doing a bit of a Houdini act. Overpriced is the kind of runner who can make you look silly if the race falls in a heap, while No Doubt Coral is the one the stable can probably land a cheque with. Queen Victorious has the roughie story if you want a flutter, but she's the sort of price that can eat your lunch if you go too hard at her.
Win: 22.9% | Place: 95.0% | Value: 0.66x
Bet: $20.50 Place, return $27.06
Why: The map is lovely, the horse is already showing it can be thereabouts, and in this muck you want the one who can hold position and not panic when it turns into a slog.
Win: 14.4% | Place: 58.7% | Value: 1.03x
Bet: No Bet โ Place div $2.25 outside saver band [$1.35, $2.10]
Why: The drift says the market's a bit on the fence, but the race shape is workable and it can absolutely bob up if the leaders overdo it.
Win: 11.7% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 1.10x
Bet: $3.00 Place, return $6.60
Why: Has the sort of profile that can stick on into the money when the mud starts doing the hard work for the field.
Win: 11.7% | Place: 63.7% | Value: 0.73x
Bet: No Bet - Stake concentrated on top 3 picks
Why: If she gets a soft run and the tempo turns into a sit-and-sprint slog, she can run into the placings without needing a miracle.
Mdn Plate, 1208m
Slow tempo, and that usually means the horse that can settle closest without burning petrol gets first use of the track
This is the sort of race where everyone wants to be cute, but the honest answer is the market has already sniffed out the right horses. Foxsky is the one they all have to beat, and the race shape suits a runner who can sit handy and keep rolling. Social Pages has been backed like a horse with a good story, Dream If You Can is the one with the market nudge and the right sort of freshness, and Barossa Bourbon is the saver-type if the day turns weird and ugly. If you're looking for fireworks, this race is more stale chips than dynamite.
๐๐ธ๐ (No.6) - $2.90 / $1.30
Win: 27.2% | Place: 95.0% | Value: 0.70x
Bet: $9.00 Win, return $26.10
Why: The map looks ideal, the horse has been knocking on the door, and it just feels like the one that can sit on speed and kick away when the others are still untangling their legs.
Win: 16.5% | Place: 63.7% | Value: 0.87x
Bet: $8.50 Place, return $13.60
Why: The late money says the stable likes it, and with the race likely run at a crawl, a horse with a decent map and a bit of upside can land in the frame.
Win: 14.5% | Place: 54.9% | Value: 1.08x
Bet: $3.00 Place, return $5.55
Why: Has the right sort of push in the market and can get the run of the race if the leaders don't go stupid.
Win: 9.5% | Place: 63.7% | Value: 0.75x
Bet: No Bet - Stake concentrated on top 3 picks
Why: Inside draw and a handy enough profile give it a sneaky path if the race turns into a dawdle and the fav doesn't fire.

EARLY QUADDIE (R1-R4)
Smart: 9, 6, 4, 12 / 6, 11, 5, 2 / 8, 1, 13, 9 / 1, 11, 7, 2 (256 combos x $0.08 = $20) - 8% flexi
Two banker legs in R3 and R4 keep this tight, but R1 and R2 still need a bit of mud-proof coverage. Decent crack, not a mortgage.
QUADDIE (R5-R8)
Smart: 1, 4, 5, 10 / 5, 6, 9, 3 / 8, 1, 12, 10 / 3, 8, 7, 12 (256 combos x $0.12 = $32) - 12% flexi
Proper open-house stuff here - every leg has a wobble, so this is more sweat than certainty. Entertainment bet with a hope that one value runner blows the doors off.
BIG 6 (R3-R8)
Smart: 8 / 1 / 1 / 5 / 8 / 3 (1 combos x $2.00 = $2) - 200% flexi
Skinny as a rake and basically a novelty ticket, but the spine is the right one if you want the roar without the pain.

On a Heavy 9 with the rail out 3m, the handy runners are getting first go at the spoils. That's why Too Tough, Blue Humma, Godtfred Kirk and Rose Velvet all make sense - they're not needing a miracle, just a decent trip.
Blue Humma, Tamatoa, Dream If You Can, Social Pages and Russian Front have all had serious attention. When the money is showing up on a wet day, it's usually because the horse is handling the conditions and the stable thinks it's the right time.
Race 3 and Race 8 have a stack of horses blowing out - and in Heavy 9 races, that can be the market saying "nah mate" rather than a bargain bin special. If you're fishing for a monster price, make sure the horse actually has the wet form to match the price tag.
