On January 1, 2026, Basnet found an intoxicated woman outside her apartment searching for her dog. He took advantage of her diminished state, entered her home, sexually assaulted her, recorded videos of her nude with his phone, and shared them with others. A neighbor later found him inside with the unconscious victim. Basnet was convicted by a Greene County jury on two counts of rape, two counts of sexual battery, and three counts of illegal use of an impaired person in nudity-oriented material.
