Lake Burlin is an "otherworldly" attraction in Altai Krai.
The water doesn't simply turn pink by chance; the reason for this surreal transformation is a microscopic alga that produces carotenoids (pigments) and lives only in highly saline water. During its life cycle, it releases a special pigment that causes the lake to display all shades of pink.
