Since my original comment was about integers, you would multiply them as fixed-point values and then add their bitwidths together, followed by a bitshift to the right to return to the starting fixed-point format.

Modulo is like 10-100x slower when it isn't a bitshift than a lookup or simple pointer armithic and it prevents pipelining all instructions that follow onto it.
hash maps are a HUGE cost if you're not paying attention. They're most effective on low-throughput processing.
