My issue is on the cultural custom that allows sharing of a wife by in-laws of the bride. I am not attacking the cultural practices that harness harmony and steer social-economic growth among the peoples, but the backward mindset that leads to the spread of this virus. The government and CSOs need to educate our people on the dangers of this custom as a way of checking the spread. There are several historical cultural practices that have have been foregone yet they were celebrated in terms dignity and values. In my culture, Individuals who wished to become blood brothers would make a tiny, symbolic incision on their stomachs. A small amount of blood from each person would be collected and mixed, often with an herb or coffee bean and the mixture was ingested, which signified the spiritual and literal intertwining of their lives. It has since been discouraged but it was a crucial. Likewise the same can be encouraged for the people of Kiruhura.
VIDEO: According to the latest HIV data report by the Uganda AIDS Commission, Kiruhura’s prevalence stands at 11%, the highest in the region, followed by Mbarara City at 10%. @AmbroseMuhumuz2 #NBSLiveAt9 #NBSUpdates

Cybershield #38 🦅🔥 Captain’s Log – The Ghost in the Firewall It was 0130hrs aboard the MV Lagos Star, deep in the Gulf of Guinea. The Chief Security Officer noticed the ship’s firewall acting strange — intermittent drops, then back online. “Probably the satellite again,” he thought. What he didn’t know was that FIRESTARTER — a sophisticated backdoor targeting Cisco Firepower and ASA devices — had already embedded itself. This malware survives reboots, firmware updates, and even some factory resets. By 0400hrs, attackers had pivoted from the compromised firewall into the OT network. Critical systems started glitching: ECDIS displays flickering, engine telemetry showing false readings. Then came the real blow — Lotus Wiper style destructive malware began erasing logs and making systems unbootable. The Captain woke up to chaos. “We’re blind and partially crippled at sea.” No ransom note. Just silent sabotage. This wasn’t a random hit. It was the new face of maritime cyber warfare: persistent backdoors destructive wipers designed to disrupt operations, not just steal data. Bridge Reflection – The Hard Truth Captains, the era of “it won’t happen to us” is over. Maritime cyber incidents jumped massively last year, and 2026 is worse. Persistent malware like FIRESTARTER, combined with unsecured VSATs and AI-assisted attacks, means one weak edge device can take down your entire vessel. Your crew and officers are doing their best under pressure — but outdated or unmonitored network gear is the silent killer. Three Immediate Actions Every Captain Must Take: 1. Urgent Firewall & Edge Device Audit — Check all Cisco/edge devices for known backdoors. Update firmware yesterday. 2. IT/OT Segmentation Monitoring — Isolate critical systems and deploy real-time anomaly detection. No more flat networks. 3. Destructive Attack Drill — Run a simulated wiper/ransomware scenario this month. Assume your backups can also be hit. Real leadership is preparing for the attack that tries to leave you dead in the water. Captains, CSOs, Engineers — Sound off: • Have you audited your firewalls and VSATs in the last 30 days? • What’s the scariest “what if” scenario keeping you awake at night? • Would you support mandatory third-party cyber audits before every voyage? Tag 3 maritime professionals or captains who need to read this. Let’s make #38 the loudest shield yet. #38 done. #39 cooking. The voyage continues. Stay sharp. Stay shielded. 🛡️🔐 #Cybershield #MaritimeCyberSecurity #GulfOfGuinea #FIRESTARTER #CyberThreats #NigerianSeafarers
