Absolutely have to mention the first conference I ever attended, then had the honor to sketchnote twice, and then host my first drink and draw: @CSSDevConf - all my love to @ari4nne and of course forever @teleject πŸ’œ

CSS Dev Conf made such a difference in my career, this small event put together in quirky locations by good people. It is my hope that Women of React Conf will have some of the impact for others that @CSSDevConf had on me

@CSSDevConf was put on by @ari4nne and @teleject. They accepted my talk, and there I was, meeting @tabatkins, @pamasaur, @chriscoyier. I came back almost every year I made it through the blind CFP process. I continued speaking around the world at similar confs, meeting more folks

Something I've been thinking a lot about while working on WomenOfReact.com... It was the @CSSDevConf that really made me feel like I belonged in a community. I wasn't having a good time at other confs, but it had such a good vibeβ€”a CoC, approachable experts, new speakers

So sorry to hear this. CSSDevConf was life changing for me. Christopher was so warm and genuine, and helped so many of us in the front end community. He will be greatly missed.

That's awesome! The Stanley Hotel @CSSDevConf was my 1st dev conference and I wish I'd been able to keep my poster! (Suitcase damage, sadly)

I am really honored that @bmoresponsive made your list! It was so great having you as a speaker and our guest as well as meeting @AJKandy! Thank you!

Honestly, I don't remember which conferences had perks or whatever. I remember which ones made me feel welcome and appreciated (whether as a speaker or as an attendee).

The one thing they all have in common is the organizers seemed to really want to put on a good conference and make sure all the attendees and speakers had a good time. A lot more personal interactions with the organizers and they seem genuinely happy you're there.

A lot on Twitter today about bad conference organizing. Instead, I'd like to hear about your favorite conferences you've spoken at. Some of mine: @CSSDevConf, @convergese, @bmoresponsive (@mjovel), @cssdayconf, @dcww's Code(Her), @CascadiaJS, and @nejsconf

But @CSSDevConf had blind voting on their CFPs, and mine got in! All that quiet CSS wrangling through the Recession had paid off, and I was able to deliver a creative talk that lots of people liked, not just in Hawaii but in Germany and Italy and Spain...

I remember the first conference I was flown to speak at, @CSSDevConf. I’d been scritch-scratching away at design and development for years in my local community, and I never felt like I had much of anything to offer. I didn’t register as a local expert or anything.

Last year I saw @MinaMarkham give an amazingly heartfelt, funny, insightful and personal keynote at @CSSDevConf, and I was blown away by the impact a compassionate, non-technical talk at a tech conference could have. It inspired me to try and do the same as well. Thank you, Mina!

Are you famous for a thing? Speaking/writing about the thing? Did a woman and/or person of color inspire you to pursue that thing through their own hard work and experience for that thing? Have you thanked or acknowledged that person in your work? Today is a good day to start.
