“Riverbank homes: Shantang Street in transition,” a Community-Based Learning exhibition by students in DKU’s advanced Chinese language course (CHINESE 401B), opened yesterday.
The exhibit documents the demolition and relocation reshaping Suzhou’s historic Shantang Street, capturing everyday life amid rapid urban change. Through fieldwork, interviews, and visual storytelling, students show how a neighborhood known for “small bridges, flowing water and homes” evolves into a commercial landmark under growing pressure from redevelopment.
The exhibition is presented in collaboration with the Office of Student Experience and the Office of Campus Engagement, Humanities Research Center, with thanks to all community partners.
