How exactly does the local mechanical environment influence bone formation in vitro? We quantified mechanoregulation of tissue formation in bone scaffolds using a volumetric method based on micro-CT and FE analysis! @eth_bone @ActaBio

This method aloowed us to detect increased mechanoregulation in dynamically loaded samples compared to static controls in osteogenic media and will help us to compare experimental setups of bone tissue engineering in the future.
(Oh and its also applicable in vivo.)

It’s out doi.org/10.3389/fmats.2021.7…. The first experiments gave me quite some headache because the barium titanate nanocomposites were so strongly X-Ray absorbing, making it really difficult to detect the formed mineral. Lot’s of expertise from the @eth_bone group was needed.
