CSS FAQs: Q9- Which degree will be helpful in giving this exam? There is no particular degree which may help one in clearing CSS exam. People from different backgrounds/ fields can sit for the exam. Optional subjects are designed in a way that the applicant will have to step out of his comfort zone and choose subjects that he does not have a background in. Q10- Is there a subject scoring trend? Scoring trend does exist. In a year, one subject may be checked in a lenient manner, resulting in students getting high scores in that subject. In other year, exam papers of that subject might be checked strictly, and students might get poor scores in it. CSS FAQs: Every day, 2/ 3 questions will be posted, so stay connected to be able to read answers to the questions that you might have asked me in my DM. Q4- How many subjects are in it? Whats the total score? There are 6 compulsory subjects- English Essay, English Precis & Composition, Pakistan Affairs, Current Affairs, General Science & Ability, and Islamic Studies. Each compulsory subject is of 100 marks. Student also has to choose 6 optional subjects- some are of 200 marks and some of 100 marks. This makes a total of 12 subjects and total written score of 1200. Q5- What are the passing marks? In each compulsory subject, passing marks are 40 out of 100. To pass an optional subject, one has to obtain a score of 33. In total, passing marks are 600 out of 1200. Its mostly held once a year (February of every year). Q2- How many groups are in it? There are 12 service groups, including Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS), Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), Pakistan Customs Service (PCS), Inland Revenue Service (IRS), etc. Someone who attempts the exam can manage to fall in one of these 12 groups. Q3- How long does one have to study to be able to give this exam? This depends from person to person.
