✨ SCOTTISH S_X WORKERS BEAT THE NORDIC MODEL! ✨
The incredible @scotland4decrim - a grassroots group of Scottish sx workers and allies - successfully defeated Ash Regan’s ‘Unbuyable Bill’, which would have implemented the Nordic Model in Scotland.
In Northern Ireland, violence against sx workers rose by 225% after the implementation of the Nordic Model. In the Republic of Ireland, it was 92%.
The Nordic Model still criminalises sx workers both directly and indirectly. Two or more sx workers working together for safety is still illegal under brothel keeping laws. Research from the Republic of Ireland found that 85% of those convicted in Ireland for ‘brothel keeping’ in recent years were migrant women.
But Scottish sx workers still need your support.
The implementation of the Nordic Model is still a risk in Scotland so long as the Equally Safe strategy, where all sex work is defined as violence against women, exists.
