At the graves of my 8th great grandparents, Rev. Stephen Steel and his wife Ruth. (His grave marker is the table—which unfortunately is decayed to the point that it is unreadable.)
He was a contemporary of Jonathan Edwards and they were classmates at Yale.
My great grandfather was the founding pastor of the Congregational church in my hometown of Tolland, CT. He was ordained in 1723 and served that church his entire life. He died the year after Edwards, in 1759.
I hope to uncover something about their relationship. I have no idea whether Rev. Steel supported the Awakening or not.
The graves are only a mile from my Tolland house.
