Big difference between lying about secret ministries, facts, and stats versus changing policy direction, goals, and forecasts. The right and media need more than one neuron to understand the definition of a lie. Deception is distorting what is or has been. A promise, a goal, a forecast not met—a lie? No. Changing direction based on current circumstances and not doggedly sticking to arbitrary campaign talking points from years ago, is that a lie? Togetherness, between humans, always comes with some mild discomfort and friction. When someone really gets us, that friction is at something very close to zero and our hearts sing. Most pairs of humans agree on, and can find common ground on, about 70% of the universe. Navigating that last 30% is the friction. Listening and replying with respect, is what can gradually reduce it. This is why: 1. Connection with your small tribe* is both the meaning and what is most real in life. The people who grew with us as we grew are always our deepest and most important connections; even those relationships that suffer tragedy are usually still with us. [Death, divorce, irreconcilable differences, substance & physical abuse] 2. To develop new relationships means sitting with some discomfort for a while. It means liking each other enough to fight through a lot of that discomfort until the friction proves too much or is overcome to a point that both can consider allowing each other into their small tribe.
