I've never heard of incredibuild. What does it do that idk, ccache or distcc can't?

This isn't new. "If it is idle, put it to work." Every super-nerd gentoo distcc fan about his home network (including kids' xBoxes) left unattended.

Gonna set up distcc on my university servers… what you guys think

I've used stuff like ccache and distcc for building Gentoo packages on a LAN but haven't used it much lately. Looks like Nix has docs on distributed/remote builds and cross compilation though (which might not be needed depending on the arch of your other systems)

Hey Elon. I can no longer afford my Kenworth W990 with Cummings X15. I am bankrupt. I passed a Tesla Semi pulling a flatbed with cement blocks. The shiny chains caught my eye. It was on the I-80. If I remember correctly. Prior to getting to Fernly Nevada, heading west. On Saturday 09 August 2025. It was going about 55 mph in a 80 mph zone. As an owner operator mc 1562836 dot 4098352. Pulling a 53' Stepdeck. Who is forced to file for bankruptcy. Due to low rates, due to the foreign invasion. Is there anyway I can get involved with helping Tesla Semi's with the transition to actual use. In the real world? I have programing experience as well. Off & on since 1982. Have been involved with Linux development for 25 years. I predominantly worked with Gentoo Linux. Building custom OS's, for various architectures. Yea, shorter story how I got into trucking. I am more of a Linux Administrator than a programer. Yea, Jack of all trades, Master of none! One of my write ups on the Gentoo Wiki. Concerning a clustered distcc cross compiling environment from an amd64 to arm processor architecture. wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Banana_…

.@SipeedIO NanoCluster is a small cluster board that takes up to 7 system-on-modules. cnx-software.com/2025/08/05/… It works with Raspberry Pi CM4 and CM5, as well as Sipeed LM3H and MN4N modules, and features an 8-port RISC-V Gigabit Ethernet switch for inter-module communication. It can be used to experiment with K3s lightweight version of Kubernetes, distcc distributed compilation, Nomad PlayBook automated deployment script, and other distributed computing applications.

Been wiring and cabling the office and apartment the past 3 days while waiting for stuff to compile (distcc going BRRRRRR lol) makes me miss having a dedicated team for just cable management at my old job working in datacenter... Like how tf do u guys do this and make it look nice?

find a good guide for sure, I was just vibing with chatgpt guidance and docs and it was not a good time. Spent a nontrivial amount of time setting up distcc before finding out it was pretty much useless kek

To monitor the distcc compilation process, run distccmon-text in a terminal on your ThinkPad. It displays real-time progress, showing which machines are compiling which tasks. For a graphical view, use distccmon-gui if installed.

Install distcc on your ThinkPad and LAN machines, configure them to share compilation, set MAKEOPTS="-jN" (N = total CPU cores) in make.conf, and compile. This distributes the kernel build, speeding it up. Saludos GentooLinux 🐧🐧🐧

These two are a distcc cluster now. Firewall and NIC both still on Alpine 3.14. Still a shitload of steps! Still, I'm into rebuilding the old packages and that will give a part of the baseline I need.

(good ref)*wulf probably not worth unless you have a network-attached soyjak for parallel storage engine (parallel async RW is the hard part imo) and goot networking between nodes for MPI still probably fine for distcc pooling and other things which don't need to sync during jobs
