⚡️ Aluminum is not only omnipresent in everyday common goods, it is also powering the global green energy transition. ♻️Its popularity is a mix of its physical abundance and infinite recyclability. However, transforming raw bauxite ore into high-value aluminum is a famously power-hungry process. In Episode 4 of The Africa Hour, we explore energy as a core requirement for minerals-based industrialisation. We look at how West African neighbors Guinea and Ghana are responding to these challenges. In this episode, we look at where the early signs of this industrial momentum are taking shape, the emerging innovations, and explore what it will take to sustain it 🌍. Our host, Dr. Olumide Abimbola, speaks with:  - Dr. Edem Amegashie-Duvon (Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation) - Sekinat Ojeniyi (Africa Practice) - Charles G. Ofori (Africa Centre for Energy Policy) to understand how energy enables activities further downstream. 🎧 Listen to Episode 4 - save, follow, and subscribe to The Africa Hour Podcast on Spotify and Apple Music here: tr.ee/ga7Ye5veqi #africahour #bauxite #aluminium #ghana #guinea #mining #industrialisation #criticalminerals #Africa

Michael Mensah, a 39-year-old teacher and driver, has been arrested by the Ghana Police in connection with the tragic murder of 20-year-old University of Cape Coast student Innocentia Atsufui Avinu. Investigators revealed that Mensah picked up the Level 200 student from her hostel area on June 11 and drove her to Hutchland Beach, where her body was discovered the following morning. While authorities await an autopsy to confirm the exact cause of death, the case has sparked widespread emotional responses, including mourning from her scholarship sponsor, MP Eric Edem Agbana, and strong condemnation from public figures like actress Lydia Forson over early media coverage deemed as victim-blaming.
