The Okotoks Dawgs showed their toughness today in a 9-6 come-from-behind victory over the Medicine Hat Mavericks in front of a crowd of 6127 on a sunny afternoon at Seaman Stadium. The Dawgs now extend their season-long winning streak to six games. The Dawgs timely offence came through for them big time in some clutch situations as they battled hard for this one.
The Dawgs’ potent offence on the day was led by another standout performance by Dawgs Academy alum Connor Crowson (Tennessee Tech University), who went 3 for 4 at the plate, with 3 RBI, including a 2-run homerun to tie it in the bottom of the 7th. Fellow Dawgs Academy alum, Ricky Sanchez (Gonzaga University) also had a good day, going 2 for 3 on the day with a walk. Newcomer Emmett Stacher (Linn-Benton Community College) also has a nice afternoon, going 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Ayden Crouse (Indiana University) stole the show this afternoon however, when he came off the bench to pinch hit in the bottom of the 10th. Crouse came through with a pair of runners on, hammering a 1-2 count fastball over the fence in left, and walking it off. That was Crouse’s 2nd homerun of the season.
Pitcher Tyson Willis (George Mason University) got the start on the mound for the Dawgs, going 5 strong innings and allowing just 2 runs. The back end of the Dawgs bullpen was also lights out today, with Wyatt Sadleir and Ashton Luera combining for 4 shutout innings to close the game. The two also combined for 6 strikeouts in those 4 innings. Luera earned his first win of the season, with the help of Crouse and Crowson.
The Dawgs’ remarkable performance under pressure clinched the game late as they now move to 11-3 on the season, tied for the division lead. They now look ahead to their next matchup tomorrow night, Monday, June 15, in Brooks when they take on the Brooks Bombers. Their next home game is Thursday, June 18, against the Lethbridge Bulls. First pitch for both of those games is set for 7:05 p.m.
