Jun was born in Shenzhen, Guangdong, where he grew up. He is known to fans and locals as the "Little Prince of Shenzhen Metro" after filming a series of public service announcements for the Shenzhen Metro in middle school which are still being aired on certain trains! Jun learned wushu at an early age, and originally wanted to become a martial arts actor like Jackie Chan. He began his career at 2 years old, when he was cast in his first commercial. He has appeared in several TV series, including 'Dragon Laws' at the age of 5. In 2007, he co-starred with Eason Chan in 'The Pye Dog' which won him the Silver Award for "New Performer of the Year" at the 2007 Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild Awards and a nomination for Best New Performer at the 27th Hong Kong Film Awards in 2008. In 2010, he played the young Ip Man in 'The Legend Is Born: Ip Man'. When Jun moved to South Korea in 2012 to train for Pledis Entertainment, he was already an award-winning actor. He was noticed for his dancing skills on Seventeen TV & Seventeen Project: Big Debut Plan where he took part as a trainee alongside the future members of his band, from 2013 -15. On 26 May 2015 he debuted as a member of Seventeen under the stage name Jun. The group's first EP '17 Carat' was released on May 29, 2015 and the rest is history! In 2018, Jun won the first solo stage competition on the Chinese music reality show Chao Yin Zhan Ji with his performance of "Wo Ming Bai", a Chinese cover of Seventeen's "Thanks", for which he wrote the lyrics. From October to December 2018, he co-hosted the Chinese music ranking show, Yo! Bang!
Jun released his first solo song and self written special single album 'Can You Sit By My Side' on 14 December 2018. In July 2019, he filmed a music video for the NetEase mobile game A Dream of Jianghu and in 2020, he participated in the soundtrack of The King: Eternal Monarch with the song "Dream" in Chinese! On 5 February 2021, Jun dropped the single "Crow" from his 2nd single album 'Silent Boarding Gate' released on 14 February 14. "Crow" entered the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart at #14, Jun's 1st billboard hit as a solo artist! On 23 September 2022, Jun dropped his 3rd digital single "Limbo" in Korean and Chinese and sold 29,000 copies of the digital album on QQ Music in its first week! The Korean version reached #26 on Bugs Real-Time chart, his first solo hit and peaked at 14 on MelOn! Jun continued his solo journey with strong releases. He dropped the self-composed “Psycho” on July 4, 2023, and surpassed 100,000 digital sales in China, earning the prize for New Singer-Songwriter of the Year at the Tencent Music Awards. In 2025, he released the Chinese single “Worth It (值得)”, and delivered the powerful solo track “Gemini” on SEVENTEEN’s Happy Burstday album which peaked at #72 on on the Circle Digital chart, and contributed the OST “Fen Yue (焚月)”. Each release has highlighted his evolving artistry and consistent chart impact!
In 2023, Jun won the Rising Star of the Year Award at the 2023 Asia Contents Awards & Global OTT Awards during the Busan International Film Festival for his lead role in the drama "Exclusive Fairytale' (2023)! In January 2025, Jun starred in Jackie Chan's latest film 'The Shadow's Edge' alongside Tony Leung Ka-fai, Zhang Zifeng and Ci Sha, with Jun playing Hu Feng, one of the villainous members in the film!
Jun has been endorsed by several brands and in February 2024, he became the travel ambassador for his hometown Shenzhen! In April, 2024, he was announced as the ambassador of skincare brand Filorga and in May, he became the ambassador for bubble tea brand ChaPanda! On June 9, 2024, Jun became the Global Brand Ambassador for STANCE. With his signature blend of poetic charm, powerful stage presence, and effortless sophistication, he perfectly embodies the brand’s bold, creative spirit.
