@TheHatman9 a flyback transformer in some sense is just a regular transformer but built to store energy rather than pass it straight through instantaneously. in switch mode power supplies where you need isolation (like mains AC to low voltage DC) you can use a flyback topology with a transformer where you use a FET you energize the primary, then switch it off to dump into the secondary. the flyback transformer’s magnetics and airgap are optimized for energy storage, similar to how an inductor is used to store energy in a boost or buck converter, but now you just have two coupled inductors.
