Instructed that a comprehensive solar energy policy to be formulated through the Maharashtra Energy Development Agency (MEDA) for all rural water supply schemes, taking into consideration the source of water, the number of citizens dependent on each scheme, the capacity of motor pumps and the total electricity units required for the operation of each scheme. Instructed to take the necessary measures to ensure uninterrupted functioning of water supply schemes across Maharashtra. Also, directed that all water supply schemes be completed and implemented in accordance with the Government of India’s norm of providing 55 litres of water per capita per day. Instructed that maintenance and repair units be established at the taluka level for all rural regional and individual water supply schemes. Directed that Gram Panchayats within the respective talukas be actively involved in the functioning of these units. Directed that the expenditure towards the maintenance and repair of water supply schemes to be met through the collection of water charges. Instructed that, in areas where the collection of water charges is insufficient, the required funds be provided from the resources of the concerned local self-government institutions.
