The 16th Century, which, a few days back, offered to our Risen Lord the seraphic Magdalene de Pazzi, now presents him with this second fruit of heroic Sanctity. Angela realized the whole meaning of her beautiful name. It’s been two months since my mom passed away and I’ve been in all directions emotionally. I don’t feel like the same person without her. It feels different. Subconsciously, it feels like she’s going to walk in through the front door and return, but, reality always triumphs and hits me like a brick. I always ask myself, “why me?” Why was I destined to spend more of my life grieving my mom (if I do live to 46) than being with her? Was it something I did in this life? A past life? Was I destined to help the friends around me deal with their losses years down the line? I don’t know. I ask myself this every day I wake up. I’ve came up with a phrase lately that describes my situation: haunted by my dead mom’s memory. It’s lovely to think back and remanence, but pain hits me so hard. It’s okay to feel it, my friends say, but it still hurts and it’s hard to do what hurts. My closest friends are helping me through this and it’s been nice of them to provide me advice, keep me sane and non self-destructive, and be there for me to talk about mom and what amazing things she did during her 57 years of life. What bothers me right now is the ones that didn’t stay. The ones that chose to look me in the eye when I needed them the most when my mom died, and just…run. Run and not return. They pretended to be there, wanting to get sushi and catch up, but then, static. What also bothers me is that Thursday before my mom died, someone in this San Antonio furry community called the cops to my house, stating I was a danger to myself. I wasn’t and haven’t been. The cops didn’t disclose who. I returned home to have a crying mom. Weeks later, I got the footage of when she was told by the cops on why they were there. I am still working to find the identity of this person. When I do, I have very few words. I will just send them the video of how my mom reacted. I will show them just how much pain they created that night and how they contributed to my mom’s pain days later when she died. That’s all. I’ll forgive, but not forget. These two months have taught me a valuable lesson to never take life or time for granted, because in an instant, everything you once loved, knew, and cherished could easily be morphed or shifted to something you don’t recognize. Home doesn’t feel like a home. Dad and I are closer, but we still feel a piece is missing in our circle. I don’t have someone who is texting where I’m at, at 10 PM at night or asking when I’m coming home. I don’t have a mom to hug and tell goodnight, nightly. In the shadow of the eclipse, I’ve found light though. I’ve gotten into gardening and plants, been more open to find new things to do, and most importantly, actually looking and researching at buying a home in the near future once my cards are aligned. I’m trying to remain strong. Trying to be strong. Trying to be…me, even if I don’t know who I am anymore. Am I a leader? Follower? Friend? Foe? Enemy to myself? The future isn’t defined. I hope I just chose the right path that provides me the most fruitful and lively of lives. I don’t want to be nearing 40 and trying to live my 20’s.
