The Central Water Commission (CWC) convened a Stakeholders’ Consultation on 12 June 2026 to deliberate on the draft Guidelines for Submission, Appraisal and Acceptance of Flood Management Schemes, 2026. The consultation witnessed the participation of more than 150 representatives from Central and State agencies, reflecting a broad-based collaborative approach towards strengthening flood management in the country. The consultation was held under the chairmanship of chairman CWC to deliberate upon the committee approved draft guidelines.
The proposed guidelines introduce a revised categorization of flood management schemes and a streamlined appraisal framework to enhance transparency, technical diligence and timely implementation. Discussions covered DPR preparation, techno-economic appraisal, hydrological studies, inter-State/ international implications, and provisions for modification of accepted schemes.
Representatives from the Brahmaputra Board, GFCC, State Water Resources Departments and CWC Regional Offices shared valuable suggestions on emergency works, appraisal timelines, inter-State clearances, support for hilly States and nature-based solutions.
The consultation concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening flood management planning and project implementation through a more transparent, uniform and accountable framework for the benefit of the nation.
