It is killing me not to be in Omaha. First time in over ten years I haven’t been there when Texas is.
But my big goober Toro is struggling rn and I couldn’t justify traveling with him wo some answers.
His back end has been slowly giving out on him for the past few months but we’ve had some really rough days the past couple of weeks.
We went to the vet today. Good news is his bloodwork is spotless so cancer/kidneys can be considered a non-issue.
Bad news is his back end is giving up - so we’re looking at a back injury or degenerative myelopathy (think Lou Gherig’s in dogs).
We pumped him full of fluids today to help with his dehydration, and gave him an appetite stimulant to try to get some calories in him to help recovery and PT.
But time will tell.
He’s an 11-year-old Great Dane, so I know we’re on borrowed time. But I’m not ready for my big goober to not be my happy go-lucky silly boy anymore. His big sister, Zora, (13-year-old perfect baby angel) has been by his side the entire time.
If you’ve ever enjoyed my Danes at a tailgate, or have had the chance to love on this big ding dong, or just love pups in general, we sure could use a few positive vibes our way. 🧡
