What exactly is Arweave AO? And why I think ICP is way more advanced than it NOW.
AO is actually a new system with some new terms. Translating them will help you understand better.
1. Process = Name of the Bitcoin mainnet inscription / Address of Ethereum smart contracts
2. AR = A place with a certain consensus for storage / Storage on the Ethereum Mainnet / Storage on Celestia / etc.
3. AO = A network protocol framework without consensus
The recent story goes like this:
AO says: Everyone, come and use me. Each person stores their data in AR. AR has a large storage space, so you can store it casually without just storing the hashRoot to save space. If you're all part of a group, first gather and define the storage structure S and the computational logic C. Then, everyone reads the data S from AR and simultaneously receives messages Msg from all actors under the current Process (the current group). This way, everyone can use the same computational logic C to process the data S on AR and the messages Msg they just received.
Q1: What if someone wants to join after the group formed?
A1: The people in the group cannot refuse your entry, but they can secretly modify the computational logic C. As a new person, you honestly use the standard code available online, but the elders keep telling you that you're wrong and slash you. You can't do anything because although the elders can't change the stored data S on AR, they can manipulate the order and content of the transmitted messages Msg to cause harm.
Q2: What if there are bad actors?
A2: AO says whether there are bad actors is your problem. We are only responsible for providing this network framework. Each group's members must determine the level of trust themselves. If you feel that everyone's gathering is similar, then you can share the entire network and achieve a Process where global computing resources are shared.
In conclusion, AR AO only provide an idea and framework. The users (the group leaders) who use it have to solve the issues of trust and verification themselves.
In contrast, ICP solves all above issue for users while still keep the high scalability. Let alone ICP has Reverse Gas Model, integration/full-stack of trusted storage trusted computing trusted data transmission, Stable Gas, DAO-Controlled Code Upgrades, Automatic Protocol Upgrades, Fast Forwarding and Decentralized Internet Identity.
All in all, ICP is a mature town, while AO is still a limited concept at the moment. Moreover, this concept itself theoretically has a very low ceiling.
