A lot of people talk about having a job in IT or Cybersecurity but don't talk about the struggles in getting their first job. Getting a job in IT is a grind. You will literally spend countless hours of learning new skills in IT and studying certifications. It can take a lot of time just to land that first job. It can be mentally draining. You can spend a full day applying for jobs and yet you get no interviews. This can be very discouraging. The grind is real. You will eventually get a job interview but it takes a lot of time and patience. Everyone tech journey is different. Remember to have patience and remember that it takes time to land a job in IT. Everything has its own process. Just need to keep trying. Its not easy when everyone says no. Eventually, patience and perseverance pays off. Never compare yourself to other people. Everyone has their unique own story on how they got their first job. If you want to get real hands on experience for helpdesk. Try this: 1. Microsoft Azure, Aws, Gcp are all free when you signed up for trial. Get Server 2025 set up and install active directory from scratch. Open up your server manager console and enable account threshold locked out policy in group policy. Change your password policy in group policy. Play around with gpo. Set up smb share folders and set up security groups. Create user accounts and add those user accounts to those specific folders. Only give that one user access to the folder. If you can learn how to do password reset, account creation, security groups, and unlocking accounts on active directory is a great start to learning helpdesk. You will definitely need a 2nd machine with windows 11 on it joined to the domain in order to replicate everything that I just mentioned above. Learn how to unjoin and rejoin a machine to the domain. 2. Learn about mfa. Duo is free. All you care about is unlocking accounts in the portal and setting up duo for customers. A lot of customers are not tech savvy so have patience with them. When it comes to setting up mobile devices. Try setting up mobile devices for a love one or family member. That way you get some experience in the set up process. You can also add and remove admins from the Duo console. Learn how to add bypass code. Sometimes customers forget their phones. Learn how to add 2nd mobile/tablet device for a customer. 3. Learn about mdm. Maas360 is free. Same as Duo. Learn how to set it up from scratch. You will deal with new hires who need Mfa and Mdm set up help for the first time. Can't avoid customer service. Be a good tech and walk them through the process. 4. Office 365 admin trial good for 30 days. Learn how to create users, mailboxes, licenses, distribution groups, troubleshooting Office 365 products like word, excel, powerpoint, outlook. Learn exchange admin center. Learn how to fix Office products using safe mode and dealing with add ins. 5. You can also learn intune. You can get intune free for 90 days when you signed up for a trial version. Microsoft has their own free intune training. This is a good starting point for learning helpdesk. Thats my 2cents. Happy Monday! #itsupportspecialist #desktopsupport #desktopsupporttechnician #desktopengineer #helpdesk #helpdesksupport

The biggest mistake I ever made in IT was when I was new in tech. Is comparing myself to someone else. Everyone tech journey is different. Everyone learns differently. Everyone trying to learn and get into tech. I'm not the smartest person in the room but I love learning from other people. Key takeaway is to always be humble. Learn how to listen and ask questions. Don't be afraid to ask questions. The more you get into the tech. The more you realize that you never stop learning and its impossible to know everything. So stop comparing yourself to someone else. Remember that some people are behind you trying to catch up and some people are ahead of you. Even if it's a little step in learning. That is still considered progress. Keep that in mind. Progress takes time and patience. Happy Saturday! #itsupportspecialist #desktopsupport #desktopsupporttechnician #desktopengineer #helpdesk #helpdesktechnician #helpdesksupport #servicedesk #cybersec

I'm excited because a mentee of mine landed a job this week. After being rejected over 100 applications. Someone finally open the door for him. You need to have the right mindset when it comes to applying for jobs. It's hard to get job when you have no experience. Someone will open the door. You can't give up. No matter how many times he kept getting hit in the ring. He never threw the towel. He kept going. I had to remind him to stay positive. It's easy to give up. Especially when things don't work out for you. This is a person who knew nothing about IT. He started from zero and now knows networking, operating systems, hardware, etc. He has come far from where he started. I had to remind him that he's done a lot and hard work pays off. Happy Friday! #nevergiveup #itsupportspecialist #desktopsupport #desktopsupporttechnician #desktopengineer #helpdesk #helpdesksupport
