A lot of medivacs go down. Not just helicopters. I know sometimes the mission is critical and they fly in conditions that I never would.
But I think of two recent King Air crashes, one in clear weather overflying the airport into the downwind to turn to base and for someone reason down they went. There was another one heading into New Mexico a few weeks ago, and it looked like controlled flight into terrain at night. Situational awareness issue.
I would think as frequently as they fly and part 135, this would be skilled and conservative pilots.
What are your thoughts? Egos and hotdogging? Training issue? Seems to me everyone tied to medical and critical missions would typically be pretty thoughtful, compassionate types.
I fly a King Air 200. I’m always keeping an eye out on the mistakes made by others. I make sure my passengers always feel safe and avoid risks as much as possible with good margins.
