Humshaugh (said Hums zoff) means "Hun's nook" & โฌ๏ธ demonstrates nicely the "nook" in the river bend. There is a leaze too & that has a very specific meaning - 'stinted grass pastures hained from Lady Day to Lammas for the hay crop' .๐คฃ. I'll repost my thread which explains.....

It irritates me. Bellingham is pronounced Belling Jam. Some people pronounce Humshaugh as Hum Shaw when it's Hums Hoff, Ulgham is Uff Am and the worst is when people call Ponteland, Ponty Land - it's Pon Tea Land
