Cox repeats his call to devolve some of the legally binding Net Zero targets to local/regional levels, but this must be done on a quid-pro-quo basis, with responsibilities being accompanied by the powers to deliver them #IfGNetZero
Responding to a Q on the role of local leaders in delivering a just transition, Rodrigues argues social justice is "key" to what the GLA is doing in terms of Net Zero. Says this includes researching who is adversely impacted & looking to co-design policy solutions #IfGNetZero
In particular, Cox says this will require green finance. He notes that several Mayoral Combined Authorities are taking steps to help investors fund green initiatives, but ultimately, "stronger signals from government" are needed #IfGNetZero
Rodrigues argues that proper devolution of funding is necessary - both for local & regional governments - as local leaders are much more likely to better understand local needs & challenges, rather than Westminster #IfGNetZero
Rodrigues also criticises the competitive bidding process for funding - with time being spent putting proposals together, rather than "getting on with delivery" #IfGNetZero
Haigh says that all aspects of society - governments both local & national, private & third-sector organisations as well as members of the public #IfGNetZero
First speaker @royalsociety's Prof Joanna Haigh stresses that the #NetZero 2050 target is important due to the longevity of carbon in our environment - "the more we emit, the more our planet will warm" #IfGNetZero

Thanks for the warm welcome, @instituteforgov! A beautiful day for my first visit for the #IfGnetzero conference, full of thoughtful discussion with a focus on making sure discussion turns to action on #netzero#climatechange.
@Ed_Miliband says the government has become βdeeply lethargicβ in its approach to net zero, while the country is βcrying out for profound changeβ
A particular area highlighted was the βtotally irrationalβ ban on onshore wind, and the damage of βcapriciousβ policy #IfGnetzero
