All this talk about scrapping the scrum is absolute nonsense. Why? Because one country happens to be freakishly good at it? Please. The Springboks have turned scrummaging into an art form and fair play. Watching them bulldoze the All Blacks pack at Eden Park was one of the most impressive sights I’ve ever seen live on a rugby field. But calling for the removal of a fundamental part of our game just because your team hasn’t figured out how to handle the Bok scrum is ridiculous. The only real solution is to front up and stop their dominance the proper way. The Wallabies did exactly that. twice in South Africa, of all places. They stood firm, matched the greatest front row in this decade and defused the “bomb squad,” and didn’t let the Boks roll out their favourite party trick. One or two line out steals alongside it and All of a sudden they look like they’ve been struck by lightning. It almost felt like they didn’t know what to do. That’s how you nullify a powerhouse scrum. You don’t bin it. You learn to beat it and take away South Africa’s only reliable magic trick. Then the game is yours. #Springboks #Rugby #IREvRSA
