No shade to Q39, their food is fine, but who is telling our international friends to go there for BBQ?! It’s too mainstream. Not authentic. Joes. Gates. Chef J. Slaps. LCs. Hell even jackstack is better!
World Cup 2026 Day 5: Today was the day we have been waiting for since we got to Kansas….It was BBQ day.
We shared the champion platter at Q39. It was nice for sure, but maybe a little bit overhyped. Will try more recommendations.
Plus the opening of England’s media centre.

Nice! So cool to see your in my town of Lees Summit camping! I’d say you can’t go wrong with either Joes, Q39, or Jackstack for BBQ. Closest would be Jackstack as there is one in Lees Summit.

Joe's is the best.
Arthur Bryant's/Gates/Zarda must have been good at one time. Original JackStack location is excellent.

It was a non event storm. They then probably got some bbq if the team nutritionists allowed. Gates, Bryant’s, Joe’s, Jackstack.

For the BBQ nostalgia go to Arthur Bryant’s. All the out of town celebs go there. For very good BBQ look up Slap’s BBQ. They close when run out of food!! For a very good dining experience check out Q39 or Jackstack BBQ.

We live in Waldo. Took the kids from the Plaza to riverfront and ba k today. They loved it. Stopped at Rally House, then Pitchside. Then finished off with Jackstack. Streetcar expansion is a game changer.

Ooh if you’re looking for BBQ I’ll always recommend the following.
Joe’s is my favorite all around. But I especially recommend it if you’re looking for a place with really good brisket. You can never go wrong with the Z-Man sandwich. Tasty fries as well.
If you want good sides, like cheesy corn or incredible baked beans, I love Jackstack.
Q39 is a little more on the upscale side and they have some of the best wings and pork belly I’ve ever had in my life. Also incredible sandwiches.
