Thread 3: Why the First Game is EverythingThe 37-year-old veteran captain strongly emphasized how critical an opening victory is to building team momentum in a multi-team ICC tournament. She noted that the first game fundamentally sets the definitive tone for the entire campaign. Coming fresh off a recent ODI World Cup victory, she wants the team to carry that exact clinical, winning mindset forward to kickstart their T20 quest on a flawless note.

Artificial intelligence is advancing rapidly. But beneath all the progress, a more fundamental question is starting to take shape: Who will provide the infrastructure that powers it at scale? Today, most AI systems rely on centralized compute infrastructure. This approach helped kickstart the current wave of innovation, but it is beginning to show strain as demand continues to accelerate. More pressure on systems. Less flexibility in scaling. Greater concentration of resources in a few locations. As usage grows, these limitations become harder to ignore. But this is not the only model that has ever existed. BitTorrent demonstrated something different years ago. A system built on millions of independent participants. No central authority coordinating every action. Resources distributed globally. And resilience achieved through participation rather than control. It showed that large-scale coordination can emerge from a network itself. Now, that same idea is becoming relevant again in the context of AI. Because the next phase of intelligence may not depend solely on centralized compute power. It may depend on how effectively computation can be distributed across networks. This opens new possibilities: • More efficient use of global resources • Better scalability under demand • Decentralized coordination of workloads • Greater system-wide resilience Instead of compute being concentrated in a few places, it becomes a shared global layer. This is where AI, DePIN, and long-standing distributed network principles begin to converge. Not just improving models. But rethinking the infrastructure behind them. Because the future of intelligence will not be defined only by capability. It will also be defined by how it is delivered, scaled, and accessed. More distributed. More open. More resilient. And closer to the original vision of an internet built for participation. BitTorrent remains one of the earliest examples of how that kind of system can function at global scale. And as AI continues to evolve, that lesson is becoming increasingly relevant again. The next era of intelligence may not be centralized. It may be networked by design. @BitTorrent @justinsuntron #TRONEcoStar

The ANC must never accept culpability or guilt relative to BEE. Never. The concept of Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) was pioneered in the early 1990s by Attie du Plessis, a white Afrikaner executive director at Sankorp, the strategic investment arm of the financial giant Sanlam. The Mastermind and Motivation Attie du Plessis: He served as the executive director of Sankorp between 1986 and 1997. He is recognized as the structural architect of the first formal BEE deals. Corporate Self-Interest: In the early 1990s, white corporate leaders feared that an incoming African National Congress (ANC) government would implement the nationalisation clauses of the Freedom Charter. The Strategy: Afrikaner business leaders designed a mechanism to transfer a stake of corporate ownership to prominent black anti-apartheid leaders. This protected the broader capitalist system and integrated a new black political elite into the mainstream economy. How Sanlam Institutionalised the Concept The Pioneer Deal: In May 1993, Sanlam orchestrated the very first formal BEE transaction in South Africa. The Mechanism: Du Plessis structured a deal to sell a 10% controlling stake of Sanlam's subsidiary, Metropolitan Life, to a black-led consortium called Corporate Africa. The First BEE Company: This consortium was led by Dr. Nthato Motlana (Nelson Mandela’s personal physician). The transaction resulted in the formation of New Africa Investments Limited (NAIL), which listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) as South Africa’s first major BEE company. The Irony of History The strategy was modeled directly after Afrikaner Economic Empowerment. In 1918, Sanlam itself was established for the explicit purpose of mobilizing capital to lift white Afrikaners out of poverty and challenge British economic dominance. Decades later, the company utilized that exact same corporate blueprint to kickstart Black Economic Empowerment, a full decade before the ANC passed the official Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) Act of 2003.
