How/why would the Republican Party ever change if it knows that it can act within impunity while in office and still be guaranteed the conservative vote every cycle?
For all practical purposes, we don’t have a “country” right now, or at least not a functioning representative republic. The evidence is legion that the Republican Party is a tyrannical party that is simply willing to say whatever it has to say during campaign season to harvest votes from conservative Americans.
If you don’t think that is the case, especially with what we are witnessing with respect to this current Republican Congress, then I just don’t even know what the Republican Party could do to ever make you begin to question whether or not the Republican Party actually represents conservatives.
You either want to live in a representative republic or you don’t. Call it whatever you want, but having a political party that is able to garner a sufficient number of votes every single election cycle solely on the basis that it isn’t the other political party is not a functioning representative republic. Under those circumstances, such a political party has absolutely no incentive to actually provide meaningful representation to its vote voters. Why would it? It knows that it’s going to get votes no matter what it does.
It is bizarre to me that in 1775 we had Americans saying things like “give me liberty or give me death,” and today in 2026 we have conservative American saying “well, yeah, I know the Republican Party fucks me, but at least they use a condom when they do it , and the Democratic Party wouldn’t use a condom.”

On this day in 1885, the Statue of Liberty arrived in New York Harbor.
Not standing tall. Not lit up. She showed up in 214 wooden crates packed into the hull of a French ship called the Isere.
France had built us a 151 foot copper woman, taken her apart piece by piece, and mailed her across the Atlantic with a note that basically said good luck putting her together.
Here's the part nobody remembers: America almost didn't take the gift. France paid for the statue, but the deal was that America had to pay for the pedestal she'd stand on, and we were broke and dragging our feet.
So newspaper man Joseph Pulitzer got angry and started shaming the country in print. He promised to print the name of every single person who donated, no matter how small.
It worked. Over 120,000 people chipped in. Most gave less than a dollar. Schoolkids sent pennies.
Regular broke Americans built the base that holds up the most famous symbol of freedom on earth. That's the part they leave out.

I’d also add— There’s no Treasury check. It’s an unsigned fund the Gulf states finance — not us (not US Government). But that’s not the reassuring part. It’s telling.
The same names keep surfacing at the seam between Gulf sovereign money and U.S. policy. World Liberty Financial — the Trump family crypto venture — ran the stablecoin Abu Dhabi’s MGX used to move $2B through Binance, two weeks before the UAE got its chip access. Kushner’s Affinity Partners sits on ~$4.8B in Gulf money, $2B from the Saudi PIF alone — while he runs point on Mideast policy.
So when an “Iran reconstruction fund” gets capitalized by those same Gulf funds, with those same intermediaries positioned to broker and build, that’s not new. It’s the machine that’s been running the whole term, aimed at a new target. The war opened the corridor. The corridor moves the capital. The capital flows through people who profit from the flow. That’s how it looks to me anyway.
