Data modeling and its languages are dear to my heart. Having learned MDX the hard way, everyone knows who learned it. Today, DAX, LookML, full-blown languages such as Morel or Malloy are here to use too. And there are related languages and alternatives, too. But everyone seems to go back to SQL. AI has decades of training data, SQL is declarative, and humans know it too. I found the recent Cube announcement helpful, as they know the space really well, and went with SQL. Rill and other BI tools are betting on SQL not just for its query language but also for metric-layer integration. With the surge of the semantic layer and full-blown context layers, I welcome the shift back to SQL. But we also need to extend its functionality. Cube shows how they use `MEASURE()`. I'm curious to see how this evolution continues with BI, data apps, and AI integration, but it's very promising.
