I made a little monster robot generator for MapTool last night. Hit "GENERATE" and each button gets a new random value from a table of 6-16 different elements. Some items affect its HD, AC, move, etc. I'll make simpler/complicated versions of the monster with fewer/more buttons.

Same here. Went from graph paper to online with MapTool, Dungeon Alchemist, and Talespire (bc of Covid initially) and back to graph paper. Got me thinking, putting that much work into map creation and running it online, I might as well just play a videogame with the boyz.

That looks nice. Tx. We have been using the freeware open-source project MapTool since 2010. I think it compares favorably with commercial apps like Roll20 or Foundry in terms of the features I use, though it may be a little harder to use in some respects. rptools.net/toolbox/maptool/

There is a bit of learning curve, but I found, personally, Foundry is easier to use than MapTool. It is also a bit smoother - but that is just going to be because of the technology.

I think for my face-to-face games I'll switch to Foundry this year, and leave behind MapTool.
