Check out our latest @MicrobialCell, where we explore the emerging field of molecular de-extinction. By tapping into ancient biology, we are uncovering new molecules that could help combat pressing global challenges like antibiotic resistance. With the power of AI, we can now systematically mine digital genomes and proteomes—spanning past creatures such as the woolly mammoth, ancient elephants, and giant sloths—to identify novel antibiotics. By identifying and synthesizing these molecules from different points in evolutionary history, we aim to reveal how their structure and function changed over time, ultimately guiding the development of new therapies and tools to address some of humanity's most pressing challenges. Great teamwork Karen Osiro, Abel Gil-Ley, Fabiano Fernandes, Kamila de Oliveira, and Octavio Franco! Link to paper: microbialcell.com/researchar…
