8-Year Old Peter Is Destined For Greatness

I was at the French embassy in Abuja for a meeting recently with 3 of my colleagues. As we waited outside the embassy building to honour our appointment, this 8-year old kid Peter strolled past and greeted all four of us confidently and pleasantly.
In a country where respect for older people is no longer very much obtainable, and young people armed with smart phones easily throw abuses at seniors online, I took notice and beckoned on the kid to please come back. We told him that we were impressed with the way he greeted us. Afterwards, I offered him a little cash gift in appreciation but he turned it down. When I enquired why, he said that his Dad forbade him from accepting things from strangers.
As we were bantering, I sighted Premier league footballer and Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi coming out of the embassy. I beckoned on him and he came. I narrated our amazing experience with young Peter. He was touched by the story and brought out five pieces of £20 pounds notes from his wallet (almost N200,000) and gave to Peter. He turned it down and the next thing we knew, Peter left us hurriedly probably overwhelmed by all the attention. Unfortunately because of our appointment, we couldn’t follow Peter or trace him to his parents’ house.
I am indeed glad that we still have young kids like Peter. His parents and teachers are doing a great job with him and surely he is destined for greatness.
