Some of the History of where i live...
Early desert films in the Morongo Valley and Joshua Tree area were dominated by the mid-1940s establishment of Pioneertown. Investors including Roy Rogers and Russell Hayden built an 1880s frontier "living movie set". Over 50 classic Westerns and TV shows were filmed there and in the surrounding Mojave landscape.
In 1946, Roy Rogers and a group of 17 investors (including Gene Autry) founded Pioneertown. Located just a few miles from Joshua Tree, this 1880s-style frontier town was designed as a "living movie set" where actors could film Westerns during the day and stay in cabins at night. The Vision: Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, and the Sons of the Pioneers (their singing group) invested $500 each to build an Old West set that offered more than just empty facades. It featured functional buildings, saloons, stables, and a local motel.Filming & History: Over 50 films and television shows were shot here throughout the 1940s and 1950s. The town was originally intended to be named "Rogersville" in his honor, but it was ultimately named after his musical group, the Sons of the Pioneers. What Remains Today: Today, Pioneertown operates as a functioning community and tourist attraction. You can still walk down Mane Street to view the 1940s false-front movie facades, shop in local Western stores, and grab food or catch live music at the legendary Pappy & Harriet's.
