El Gobierno de España y la ONG Accem montaron un escenario artificial para la visita del Papa al centro de inmigrantes ilegales de Las Raíces (Tenerife).
Se le condujo a una carpa acondicionada exclusivamente para la ocasión semanas antes, con una alfombra en el suelo y una rampa de acceso, que sirvió como escenario para las fotografías y los vídeos difundidos durante la visita. Además, se utilizó a los inmigrantes para aparentar que aquellas eran sus camas, perfectamente ordenadas y limpias.
Mientras tanto, las verdaderas carpas en las que duermen los inmigrantes son las que aparecen en la primera imagen.
Lo mostrado al Papa y al mundo no representa la realidad del centro.
