A list of UK frontier-AI businesses to consider using (list compiled by ChatGPT) “A thread of Britain’s frontier AI firms 🇬🇧🧵 Not AI wrappers. Not “ChatGPT for X”. Actual firms building foundational models, advanced infrastructure, or genuinely novel AI systems. 1. Google DeepMind Britain’s AI crown jewel. Building frontier multimodal models, AGI research, robotics and scientific breakthroughs like AlphaFold. 2. Stability AI The company behind Stable Diffusion. One of the world’s most important open-source image model labs. 3. Wayve Building embodied AI for autonomous driving using end-to-end neural networks trained on real-world data. 4. Synthesia Creates AI-generated video avatars at scale. One of Europe’s biggest enterprise AI success stories. 5. Cosine Building Britain’s sovereign frontier AI models. A major new player in domestic foundation model development. 6. PhysicsX Building engineering foundation models for aerospace, automotive, semiconductors and advanced manufacturing. 7. Isomorphic Labs Using frontier AI to radically accelerate drug discovery, spun out of DeepMind. 8. ElevenLabs Building state-of-the-art voice synthesis and speech models, now a global leader in AI audio. 9. PolyAI Advanced voice agents for enterprise, pushing realistic conversational AI in customer service. 10. Fractile Designing specialist AI chips to make inference dramatically faster and cheaper. 11. Nscale Building sovereign AI compute infrastructure so Britain can train and run models at home. 12. Faculty Deploying advanced AI into defence, intelligence, government and critical national infrastructure. Britain has the talent. The question now is whether we build the capital and compute to match it.”
Access to @AnthropicAI’s latest models has been paused for all customers, including in the US and UK. The main lesson: as we debate the future of national security and technological sovereignty, access to AI capabilities is crucial. That's why this Govt is the first to set up dedicated funding for our AI industry through @UKSovereignAI unit. And just this week, we announced £1.1bn for our AI chip industry.

Europe's got some serious contenders like Mistral (Mistral Medium 3.5, Mistral Small 4), Aleph Alpha (Luminous series), DeepL, and PolyAI, and let's not sleep on 🇫🇷 Kyutai with Moshi and the open-source EuroLLM. We're definitely in the game.

Fuck no. The EU have regulated AI into oblivion. One of the biggest advantages of Brexit has been escaping that and we now have a thriving AI industry. Google Deepmind, Elevenlabs, Wayve, Stability, Palantir either have major offices here or based here, and a dozen smaller companies like Fetch, PolyAI, Granola and more.

Hawksmoor has spent 20 years building a hospitality culture that takes pride in every guest interaction. Especially the first one, which, for many guests, is a phone call. At peak times, they were missing as many as 42,000 calls a year, with no visibility into what those callers needed. Now PolyAI answers every call across all 14 sites, around the clock: → 80,000 covers booked → Missed call rate reduced from 20% to zero → 90% guest satisfaction score For a brand built on the quality of every touchpoint, the phone now delivers to the same standard as everything else they do. Every Google search you've ever made runs on math invented by a British woman you hardly have heard before. Her name was Karen Spärck Jones. In the early 1970s at Cambridge, she created "inverse document frequency" ,the technique search engines still use today to decide which results matter. She spent her career fighting for women in computing. She died in 2007, largely unknown outside her field. Now Britain has put her name on something bigger. The Spärck AI Scholarships , the UK's boldest talent bet yet Here is the UK Govt plan: build a scholarship with the prestige of Rhodes, Marshall or Fulbright but for AI. The first 100 scholars start this October. now what they will get: Fully funded Master's at one of 9 elite universities like Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, Edinburgh and more £22,000 tax free stipend on top of full tuition Placements at top UK AI firms (Darktrace, Faculty, PolyAI) and inside the AI Security Institute itself A national cohort network , 100 future leaders who all know each other Backed by £17.6 million, open to both UK and international students. the UK already produces around 46,000 AI relevant graduates a year , the most in Europe. The problem was never volume. It was keeping the best ones and fixing the imbalance as only 22% of UK AI and data science roles are held by women. This scholarship attacks both at once and its not an isolated move ,it comes straight from the same national AI plan that built Britain's supercomputers and funded its chip startups. Piece by piece, the machine is being assembled.

Deloitte's 2026 survey: 41% of inbound calls are now handled entirely by AI voice agents. Leading deployments hit 70-87%. That spread — 41% to 87% — is the most important number in CX right now. The 41% average means most deployments are working. But the 87% ceiling (PolyAI's published benchmarks) means the gap between average and best-in-class is 46 percentage points. That's not a technology gap. That's an implementation gap. Here's what changes when you go from 25% to 70% AI containment: **Team structure flips.** At 25% containment, you're augmenting agents. At 70%, you're redesigning the entire queue. The humans that remain are handling escalations, edge cases, and high-value conversations that AI genuinely can't resolve. Different skill set. Different pay. Different retention strategy. **Staffing math changes.** At 25% containment, you're reducing overtime. At 70%, you're restructuring headcount planning entirely. The hiring model shifts from "how many FTEs to handle volume?" to "how many specialists to handle what AI can't?" **Customer expectations reset.** Once your containment rate crosses ~50%, customers stop being surprised by AI and start having expectations about what it should know. The error tolerance drops. The quality bar rises. You can't coast on novelty. The 34% of CX operations not using AI voice agents in 2026 face a compounding disadvantage. Every quarter of delay is a quarter their competitors are training models, refining prompts, and learning what actually drives containment higher. The best time to deploy was 18 months ago. The second-best time is now — before the gap between average (41%) and laggard (0%) becomes industry-defining. At Ender Turing, we work with contact centers navigating exactly this transition. The operations that will lead in 2027 are the ones getting the implementation right now, not just the technology. Source: Deloitte 2026 Contact Center AI Survey / PolyAI containment benchmarks

Voice AI now handles 80% of calls without human intervention. PolyAI is reporting 87% containment in early deployments. Cost per automated call: ~$0.40 vs $7-12 for human agents. Gartner projects $80B in contact center labor savings globally by end of 2026. The numbers look like an easy ROI story. They're not. There's a distinction vendors don't lead with: **Containment rate ≠ resolution rate.** A call is "contained" when the customer hangs up without reaching a human. It's "resolved" when their actual problem is solved. These are different numbers. Often very different. At 80% AI containment, your operational baseline just shifted. But your QA processes, CSAT benchmarks, and coaching playbooks were built for a world where humans handled 70-90% of volume. That entire measurement framework is now wrong. The questions that matter at 80% containment are different: - What does "good" CSAT look like for AI-handled calls vs human-handled calls? (Different baselines, different levers.) - How do you QA at scale when the "agent" produces 50,000 calls/day? You can't sample 5% and call it done. - What's your escalation design? The 20% of calls that DO reach humans are your hardest cases. Your team just became a specialist unit, not a generalist one. - How do you detect containment-without-resolution before it tanks loyalty metrics 60 days from now? The companies getting 80% containment AND improved CSAT didn't just deploy voice AI. They redesigned the entire operational layer around it before launch. Plumbing first. Always. The $0.40/call economics are real. The measurement redesign is the hidden project nobody scoped. → Running autonomous agent systems at scale: github.com/johniosifov/Auton…

When you handle over a million calls a month for members getting to dialysis and oncology appointments, every single one has to be answered. SafeRide Health's call volume doubled year over year, and hiring enough people to be there at all times wasn't possible. They needed a way to be there for members in the moments that mattered most. That's why they chose PolyAI. Together, we created an agent with a voice that their members could trust, with the reliability to perform at scale, and the accuracy to get every interaction right. Steven, their PolyAI agent, now handles over a million calls a month, ensuring every member gets through. They've saved 47,000 agent hours on authentication alone. As Ben Salter, Chief Product Officer and Co-Founder at SafeRide Health, says: "If you want a 99% on-time fulfillment rate, a 4.8-star member rating, and 97% on-time performance, you need AI automation. It's the only way you maintain member experience and costs." Read the full story: poly.ai/en/customers/SafeRid…

Last month, Elena Shabanova joined Dex as our Founding Product Designer. Everything she showed us was anchored in the same question: what does our user need? Before Dex, Elena spent 3 years at PolyAI, one of the first conversational AI companies in the world, building products 0 to 1. She has the rare blend of product, design and user thinking that is essential to build well. And since joining, she’s put that to work - speaking to lots of users and already making big upgrades to the product experience. Buzzing to have her on the team. Welcome, Elena.
