I find it rather reassuring, given what a cesspit this site can be at times, that 2 of my most popular posts of recent weeks have been photos of postboxes. Maybe all is not lost…
The lovely town of Framlingham Suffolk has a beautiful ruined castle and one of the oldest postboxes still in use. Cast in Derby in 1856, octagonal in design it has a vertical slot that lets in rain. This feature was modified in subsequent boxes.

Because postboxes in some countries are merely functional and not so beautiful, there is not much love for it. When mail went electronic, these have just become fodder/platforms for vandals. So sad.
