I almost totally agree with WMC, but he may be forgetting some great inventions. For example: the wheel, fertilizer, Archimedes screw, the steam engine or electricity. Those are some basic foundational technologies, and I guess cars driving themselves is right up there.
Anyway, regarding cars that drive themselves, I really haven’t driven much lately and the data doesn’t lie. I steer this car less than 3% of the time.
After initial reports about 14.3.3, I wasn’t expecting much coming from 14.3.2, but it really is so much better.
Very hard to put a finger on it but it’s really a seat of the pants feel,l that it’s driving more like I would if I was being very observant, fully awake, perfect eyesight, not distracted, etc…
You don’t know what you’re missing until you spend a week with it. And if you have people lying to you all the time, you risk falling that much further behind and put yourself and your family’s safety in the hands of a flawed piece of meat by not embracing this technology. I don’t just mean the meat driving them around, but all the other meat on the road.
No one should be allowed to drive themselves on the highways with the tech we have today. And I don’t just mean FSD. Blue cruise, ProPilot, FSD, I don’t care what you activate on the highway, it should be mandatory if it passes testing by the authorizing body in your country.
Just based on what I see everyday; cars driven terribly at 70, 75 , 80 or 90 on the highways. There are people out there that do not understand the physics of 4000 lbs going 60 vs 80, dry vs wet pavement, etc…
Anyway, I’m just going to hope people wake up and smell the coffee. For now I’ll trust that my vehicle can avoid them as much as possible.
The future is going to be incredible and it’ll be here sooner than you think and whether you like it or not.
