The trick to uphill pipe welding, no matter the process is keeping the arc out of the center and on the land, doing that equally is 100% skill that some have and some don't no matter how long they practice, I spent a big chunk of my career welding underwater where you cannot manipulate the puddle AT ALL or you're screwed, having to unlearn one and learn another wasn't easy
