🚨🪖🇷🇺🇺🇸 Se proprio si vuole tentare di comprendere cosa passi per la testa di Vladimir Putin citofonare Bill Burns. Uno degli uomini che più di tutti hanno saputo leggere i pensieri e le intenzioni dell'uomo del Cremlino.
C'è un aneddoto, risalente al viaggio a Mosca che l'ex direttore della CIA fece su richiesta del presidente Biden per informare Putin che gli Stati Uniti avevano scoperto i suoi piani per l'Ucraina, che è molto indicativo del modo di pensare del leader russo:
"Non fece alcuno sforzo per dire: “Ecco, ci risiamo, la CIA ha sbagliato di nuovo”. Il suo messaggio, in sostanza, era qualcosa del tipo: “E allora, che cosa avete intenzione di fare al riguardo?”. (...) Su indicazione del presidente Biden, gli esposi in modo piuttosto dettagliato quali sarebbero state le conseguenze se l’invasione fosse andata avanti. Quindi non so se in conversazioni di quel tipo ci fosse molto che si potesse dire per cambiare la fissazione di Putin in quel momento. Si era convinto che, tatticamente, ci fosse una finestra di opportunità: con gli Stati Uniti ancora in fase di ripresa dal Covid e dalle difficoltà economiche collegate; dopo il ritiro dall’Afghanistan; con leader europei dei quali Putin, all’epoca, tendeva ad avere un’opinione piuttosto scarsa. Pensava di aver modernizzato l’esercito russo al punto che avrebbe facilmente travolto gli ucraini. La storia avrebbe poi dimostrato che Putin si sbagliava. E di tanto. Ma alla luce delle informazioni provenienti dalle agenzie di intelligence europee e degli alert dei generali, ciò che ci interessa oggi non è tanto che le sue valutazioni fossero errate. Ciò che conta è che a un certo punto, quando pensa di avere un'occasione, Vladimir Putin entra in azione, non resta a guardare.

It’s honestly pathetic to see the Kremlin dusting off figures like Dodik to trot out the 'we're the good guys' routine. Since Orbán’s out of the picture, I guess the bench of 'putin-friendly' voices is getting pretty thin.
It’s a total joke.
It’s hard to take a 'strategic' lecture from a guy who’s been sidelined by his own legal system, especially when putin himself just finished telling the world he’s about to ramp up the destruction in Ukraine.
The propaganda is getting as desperate as the situation on the ground.
