Three Men Arrested in Thandwe with ICE Drugs Worth Over MMK 23 Million AB News – June 12, 2026 THANDWE, Arakan — The Department of Law Enforcement and Public Security (DLEPS) has arrested three men in Thandwe District after seizing crystal methamphetamine (ICE) with an estimated street value exceeding MMK 23.3 million. The suspects were identified as U Aung Aung (38) and U Bo Gyi, also known as Maung Maung Myint (52), both from Shwe Kyaung Pyin Village in Thandwe Township, and Ko Nyi Nyi, also known as Ko Sithway Nyi (26), from Mya Pyin Ward (6) in Ngapali Town. According to DLEPS, authorities received information on June 9 that narcotics were being distributed from U Aung Aung’s residence in Yejo Pyin Village, Thandwe. When officers conducted a search, the suspect had already fled the area. Following further investigations, DLEPS officers tracked and arrested U Aung Aung at his sister’s residence on the morning of June 10. Based on information obtained during interrogation, authorities learned that the narcotics had allegedly been purchased from U Bo Gyi. Subsequent searches led officers to a salon owned by U Bo Gyi, where 27 packages of ICE weighing a total of 322.33 grams were discovered hidden in a padauk tree. The seized drugs were valued at approximately MMK 23.34 million. In a separate operation on June 10, DLEPS officers searched the residence of Ko Nyi Nyi in Ngapali after receiving reports of drug use and distribution. During the search, officers confiscated an additional package of ICE methamphetamine. The three suspects remain in custody and have been charged under DLEPS Case No. 2/2026. Charges include possession of narcotics for sale, drug consumption, and involvement in or financial support of narcotics-related offenses under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. Junta troops conducting military operations in the lower villages of Launglon Township, Dawei District, Tanintharyi Region, burned down six civilian homes in Ka Dut Gyi Village. On May 28, junta troops entered Ka Dut Gyi Village through a forest route while carrying out village-to-village operations in southern Launglon Township. After entering the village, the troops set fire to civilian homes. The troops first stationed themselves at a monastery on Yankin Taung before moving into Chay Taw Yar Monastery inside Ka Dut Gyi Village. On the same day, resistance joint forces carried out a drone attack against junta troops stationed at the monasteries. The junta troops responded with artillery fire. Following the exchange of drone and artillery attacks, junta troops burned down six houses located near Chay Taw Yar Monastery, where they were stationed. “Four houses were completely destroyed. The remaining two can still be repaired. We could only watch,” said a local resident. The fire completely destroyed four homes, including a two-story building, wooden houses, and thatched-roof homes. Two other houses were partially damaged. Since May 20, the Junta has reportedly been conducting village-to-village operations across Launglon Township. Local residents said the troops often move secretly before suddenly entering villages, arresting civilians, and confiscating money and valuables before releasing them. Thousands of villagers from Sit Pyae, Nyin Maw, Gaw Inn, Auk Ye Phyu, Ka Dut Gyi, Kyat Yet Twin, Tha Pyay Shaung, and Thakyet Taw village tracts have been forced to flee their homes. Local sources also reported that young people have been arrested and forced to accompany junta troops as porters, carrying supplies and equipment. Dozens of youths remain detained.
