It’s why we’re investing in recreational fishing activity during this unprecedented algal bloom. Amongst other programs with @RecFishSA, today we announced fish re-stocking programs and the establishment of new fishing reefs. We will continue to do our best to support our fishers, businesses and communities through the algal bloom.

A team of 52 scientists led by Assoc Prof Mark Lintermans at @UniCanberra has undertaken the first comprehensive assessment of how well Australia's native freshwater fish are doing. It included @IUCNRedList extinction risk assessments of 241 species. The results show massive declines, one-third of our freshwater fish are now threatened. See 🧵 for snapshot of results.
