Somali World Cup Referee Omar Artan Sues FIFA for $2.5 Million πΈπ΄βοΈ
Despite FIFA recently agreeing to pay his full World Cup salary in full, elite referee Omar Artan is taking the football governing body to court in Mogadishu!
The lawsuit, filed in the Regional Court of Banaadir, claims Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress and Severe Reputational Harm after his traumatic 11-hour airport detention and deportation from the US last week.
The lawsuit states:
The Demand: $2,500,000.00 USD in compensatory damages.
The Reason: While FIFA covered his financial contract, their immediate decision to publicly drop and replace him from the tournament roster effectively validated false narratives branding a national sporting icon as a "security risk" and causing massive psychological trauma and public humiliation at home in Somalia.
