SwiftUI is actually rendered by the private RenderBox framework and has a unified drawing architecture compared to Core Animation’s more open ended approach. However, SwiftUI views are still composited by Core Animation!

参考までに... SwiftUIのText、Image、Buttonなど一部のViewはRenderBoxというMetalベースのエンジンによって描画された後CALayerに合成されています 単純なView Hierarchieを見ると合成されているため見にくいですが、個別のCALayerとしてデバックすればメタデータも含まれているので見やすいかもです

Yeah it can’t be exclusive to UIKit because AppKit has SwiftUI support too. RenderBox is just the accelerated, Metal-based drawing engine as far as I can tell. Core Animation is probably the better abstraction layer I’d guess :) But RenderBox is amazing

I wouldn't be surprised if RenderBox has to coordinate heavily on SwiftUI's behalf with Core Animation to make Liquid Glass work :) But ya, it definitely isn't a SwiftUI "feature". Also we have Hopper MCP now, so AI can kinda tell us exactly how stuff was built haha

I don't think it's technically correct to say SwiftUI is a UIKit abstraction. SwiftUI uses RenderBox which is an entirely new drawing/rendering engine just for SwiftUI that unifies all draw paths. (This is why we can apply Metal shaders to anything, which isn't possible with UIKit due to "special" layer types.) However it is absolutely true that the foundational rendering and compositing is Core Animation and Metal. I'm sure it calls out a lot to UIKit as well for wrappers, representables, etc.

To create the illusion of an infinite carousel, I had to effectively double up the cards. That let me do the fast-forward animation at the end, which eventually settles back on the first real content card. (We have mock cards in front of and behind the main content cards to fill out the carousel a bit more.) Once it settles on the first card again, I do an instant swap back to the first set of content cards. I dynamically show and hide cards once they're completely offscreen, so RenderBox isn't having to do a bunch of wasted drawing. [6/13]

I get WHY SwiftUI’s RenderBox renderer rejects platform views for advanced (backdrop) effects, but it’d be nice if you could at least force it to composite platform views by rasterizing them.

It has some advantages in the render pipeline because, yeah, all SUI native views render with RenderBox, so you can easily apply shaders to any composition. I like to mix SUI and UIK as needed!
