I think the bigger but also super minuscule menial retcon here is how after each movie they make Woody look less and less like an actual 50's toy and more like the real life modern tie in toys sold
This is just one of the unnecessary retcons this movie made and I’m never forgetting.

Despite what everyone wants to say retroactively continuity is not by itself bad writing. Bad writing is when the retcon sticks out for no solid intent or changes too much of the established continuity. Some retcons even fix some older bad writing decisions.

Halo 4 is functionally a hard retcon of the entire franchise. It's not the same universe anymore. And no amount of forced sad scenes where a violin plays in the background while Cortana goes through AI-schizophrenia (never how rampany was meant to work) will help it in isolation.
I think the reason that Halo fans hated on Halo 4's story is because they couldn't handle anything with more depth than a shallow pond.
"WhAt aBouT HaLO Two!?" They hated that back then too lol (and that's why every character from Halo 2 lost 85% of their braincells in Halo 3)

Its totally plausible for Arle to be vague or misdirect about something she doesn't need to reveal yet, so imo even if it were a retcon it just doesn't matter that much 🤷♀️ She dropped everything and gave part of her life to save Bina, but was vague in the line about her too

"Retcon" this, "retcon" that, and yet people don't understand that they are still talking to the traveler. All the "about (x)" dialogue is still talking to the traveler. Arlecchino wouldn't reveal all of that straight up. It would kill the whole purpose of her secretive character

The fandom also needs to accept that what they think is a rewrite or a retcon sometimes (most times, tbh) is just character development. Because we don't know every facet of the characters the moment they release, their story and relationships with other characters move forward.
