The exception I think is the ancestors who fundamentally were Not made to be like Actual Characters they're just setdressing around the two actual characters of Meenah and Aranea. Every other new character though? Solid gold
I think it's just very refreshing to see something this game is taking in a bold direction, a lot that has been showcased with Evergreen so far has just been setdressing for the larger game, or stuff we already knew about with the nature of it being a remake.
not only is it good writing but a lot of its good writing is directly intertwined WITH all of the bulletpoints in the original poster’s tweet. like these are characters whose diversity is directly embedded into the narrative and the world, rather than just being setdressing.
the way I'd describe nearly all americana fantasy setdressing is more based on "rumor" than myth. cryptids, aliens, witches, ghosts or lost ancient Native American grounds. this is probably due to how young the US is and the time it was made not being very "fantasy" like
“themes and such” being like an insult is weird to me because… i feel like. delivering your themes and message properly in a story is more important than like. having a perfectly consistent world forever. a story is meant to make you feel something, not just be wiki fodder
All the systems in the game like Hunting, eating, honor, cleaning guns, etc don’t actually add any meaningful depth to the game. It’s just setdressing. Sure it’s pretty, and it’s impressive. It doesn’t make it fun or interesting. That’s why it’s so difficult to replay.
Do you agree with this?🤔
Does Dragon Ball have bad world building?
Let me know
(Try to control yourselves One Piece fans lol)

As you said in your own reply, it’s not even like it can’t be more interesting
It’s the unwillingness to put even the littlest bit of thought into writing them is why the trope is getting retired
Just using the more interesting thing as setdressing for fights to happen
I’ll be streaming a bit of my work on our indie game (I’ll start with some warmups and then I’ll do a bit of setdressing on the main planet~
Feel free to stop by & chat/doodle along^^

RITUAL - Props and Setdressing
Not all of it, but most of the things used to build up The Hunter's tent. I feel like I made both too many and quite little assets at the same time, though the goal was always modularity and to be efficient with a small number of stuff

Well this is a major issue with the sims 4. Specially recent worlds. All setdressing. This is very bad and immersion breaking. It also gives the impression that the town is empty. Sims 4 worlds = ghost towns.. @TheSims
I do agree somewhat, they are far from being Matt Groening-types and do care about animation on a somewhat deeper level, but South Park and especially Family Guy did lose a lot of the observational cartoonist qualities rather quickly, and ultimately it did become just setdressing
...and if you are, it awards you with all of those smaller, sweeter little references. every single spell being right out of the books, mechanics like attunement and inspiration, tiny little nods in the setdressing and costuming....
it’s all setdressing desu… if you’re writing a FACE dynamic wrt to them as representing their dominant culture, that would be different to writing a FACE dynamic representing their military, and different to writing them as pure governance..
