Seton Hawkins, Director of Public Programs at Jazz at Lincoln Cente on the passing if Abdullah Ibrahim:
#sabcnews
Jazz at Lincoln Center was honored to host Abdullah Ibrahim for a 91st birthday celebration last October. It is difficult to describe the emotions in the room during his performances, as a hushed and reverent audience watched in rapt wonder as one of the greatest masters of music shared his works from a lifetime.
With his passing, we have lost one of the most insightful composers, one of the most distinctive piano players, and a walking library of musical and cultural heritage. His legacy will live on in the generations of artists that he inspired, and in the music that will continue to be played and cherished in the decades to come.
