I hate narrative that Suriya came in as an alternative to another Boxoffice forces like #Rajinikanth or #ThalapathyVijay. I do agree that there exists a vaccum. But don't bring shitty narratives like he just exists to fill up their gap in our DM, atleast. 😂 Vijay, #Ajithkumar, Suriya , #vikramarka are contemporaries who had their own upswings and downswings throughout the career. For example, Ajith was a very big force in late 90s , Vijay had his share during Ghilli, TMT time. Vikram was considered to be next big force during Saamy , Dhool, Dhill, Anniyan days. Suriya had his peak during 2007-2013. To say that Suriya is an alternative to someone else, means you doesn't have an iota of understanding regarding tamil cinema history. Let's dig up some facts, which some people may find difficult to digest. 😉 Suriya in particular was the first actor after Rajinikanth to score a 100cr club in tamil. His film Ayan ran for 100 days in all south states. He was actively linked with Hollywood projects during 2009-10. His film Singam, which released a week earlier, due to ongoing Mullaperiyar dispute , did close to 4.5crs , way back that time, even with widespread piracy. The films like Vaaranam Aayiram enjoys strong cult fanbase. His movies had the most no.of Kalaimamani awards. He is a recipient of National Film Award for best actor. His 2011 tamil film, 7Aum Arivu did 32crs in Telugu states. Except for Rajinikanth, no other tamil actor crossed that mark till 2019. Some handles brings a narrative that he is a newcomer or heir or alternative or competitor to X or Y. Frankly speaking, he was always one of the biggest Boxoffice forces in south Indian cinema. And if a regional movie like #Karuppu doing 300crs , imagine a Suriya movie with universal content and positive acclaim could do to Boxoffice. He is also the only actor after Rajinikanth and Vijay with strong overseas market and organised fan base outside TN. To round up, there may be many stars....But he is THE ONE. A defining actor of the generation.And it doesn't matter, whether you hate him or love him. You just can't ignore him , any more. 🤞
