Parents in Bristol waited anxiously at school gates today as four schools were put into lockdown while armed police searched for a masked gunman after someone was shot in a nearby street. The victim, a man in his 20s, was left with life-changing injuries after shots were fired into his car on Speedwell Road in east Bristol shortly after 1.47pm today. Witnesses described chaos as the suspected shooter wearing a balaclava, grey hoodie and black trousers, fled the scene on a electric bike heading towards Soundwell. Avon and Somerset Police deployed firearms officers and a helicopter as part of a manhunt, with large sections of road closed. Bristol Brunel Academy, Two Mile Hill Primary School and Chester Park Infant and Junior schools were all placed into lockdown on police advice, with pupils ordered to stay inside and parents told not to approach the gates. Chief Inspector James Clements: "I know this incident will be incredibly concerning, we are deploying significant resources, including a National Police Air Service helicopter and our specially-trained firearms officers, as we work to locate the person responsible."
